Dashboards

The agent generates Splunk Simple XML dashboards from a natural language description, renders them for review, and saves them into an app of your choice.

Dashboard generation is user-initiated at every step. The agent produces the XML, and no dashboard of yours is created or changed until you choose to save it.

Previewing

When a response contains dashboard XML, click Dashboard under the message to open the preview.

The Preview tab renders the dashboard exactly as Splunk will, with its panels and searches live, and can be refreshed or switched between light and dark themes. The Source tab shows the underlying XML, which can be copied from either tab. Drag the panel's left edge to resize it.

Saving

1. Open the dashboard preview.

2. Click the Save as icon.

3. Fill in the following fields:

   • Dashboard Label - The title shown in Splunk. Read-only; it is taken from the dashboard's XML, so ask the agent to change it.
   • App - The app to save the dashboard into. The list contains the enabled, visible apps on the Search Head.
   • Dashboard ID - The dashboard's identifier, used in its URL. May contain only alphanumeric characters, -, . and _, and must not start with a ..

4. Click Save, then Open to view the saved dashboard.

Saving is subject to your own Splunk write permissions on the target app. If a dashboard with the same ID already exists there, you'll be asked to tick Overwrite this dashboard before saving.

Save Failures

If the dashboard can't be rendered - usually because the XML is malformed - the preview shows a Save Failed badge and falls back to the Source tab, and a Fix action appears under the message.

Clicking Fix sends the failure back to the agent so it can correct the XML and produce a new version to preview.
